WWI Imperial German Soldiers Regiment Group Photo Postcard Uniforms 1918 RPPC

Original World War I Imperial German military real photo postcard (RPPC) showing a large group of approximately two dozen German soldiers from the same military unit/regiment, photographed together outdoors.

This is an especially interesting group portrait because most of the soldiers are wearing work, fatigue or barracks clothing with military-style field caps, while the two men positioned at the far left and far right wear more complete Imperial German military uniforms.

Approximately 25 soldiers can be seen in the photograph. The different styles of dress make this an excellent study image of German Army personnel away from the formal parade-ground setting. Several men are seated casually in front while the remainder form rows behind them.

The two uniformed soldiers flanking the group are particularly prominent and may have been NCOs or unit personnel supervising/posing with the detachment.

Reverse

The reverse contains handwritten period identification. Although much of the writing is faded and difficult to decipher confidently, a date appears to read:

“9. Mai 1918” — May 9, 1918

This dates the photograph to the final year of World War I.

Additional handwritten notation appears to include names and/or information concerning the soldiers or unit, but portions are too faint to translate reliably from the photographs.

The card has a divided postcard back and appears to have been retained as a personal military photograph rather than postally mailed.

Condition:
Original period photograph showing considerable age and use. There is a prominent vertical crease through the center, additional creasing, surface wear, staining/soiling, rounded and worn corners, edge wear and writing/marks on the reverse. Despite the wear, the soldiers and their uniforms remain clearly visible. Please examine all photographs carefully for exact condition.
