WWII German Third Reich Soldier Rosemarie Song Postcard Military Wehrmacht 1940s

Original WWII-era German military song postcard featuring a uniformed German Wehrmacht soldier sitting in a field playing a harmonica. Beneath the photograph are the complete German lyrics to the popular soldiers’ song “Rosemarie.”

The song tells of a soldier separated from his sweetheart Rosemarie after being called to military service. The recurring refrain translates approximately as:

“Rosemarie, Rosemarie, I love you so very much; Rosemarie, Rosemarie, and parting is so hard.”

One verse specifically states that he had to leave his sweetheart because “I must now be a soldier” and would have to leave her alone for a long time.

The photograph is a particularly nice military image showing the soldier in uniform and tall marching boots, seated outdoors and apparently playing a harmonica. A rank/appointment chevron is clearly visible on his upper sleeve.
