WW2 Nazi German 1943 Third Reich Finanzamt Jena Nachnahme Tax Collection Card Swastika Eagle

Original Third Reich German Finanzamt (Tax Office) Nachnahme collection card, mailed from the Finanzamt / Finanzkasse Jena on 20 April 1943 Adolf Hitlers birthday, interesting to see a 4/20 cancel without it commemorating the Fuhrers birthday! 

This is an excellent piece of wartime German governmental and postal history, combining an official tax collection demand, postal markings, and a prominent printed Third Reich Dienststempel with eagle and swastika.

The large heading:

“Nachnahme”
Translation: “Cash on Delivery / Collection on Delivery.”

The sender is printed as:

Finanzamt (Finanzkasse) Jena
Tax Office (Tax Cashier’s Office), Jena

The card demanded payment of 17 Reichsmark 30 Reichspfennig (17.30 RM). The reverse contains the official Vollstreckungsauftrag section—an enforcement instruction relating to unpaid taxes, arrears, late-payment surcharges, interest and possible compulsory collection.

The accounting section appears to show 16.80 RM in tax plus a 50 Reichspfennig Nachnahme fee, producing the total 17.30 RM demanded.

The front carries a Jena 20.4.43 postal cancellation and the printed official marking:

“Frei durch Ablösung Reich!”

This indicated official Reich government mail whose postal charges were handled through the Reich’s bulk postal-fee arrangement rather than ordinary individual postage. Contemporary regulations required participating government mail to carry the Frei durch Ablösung Reich marking together with the official service seal bearing the Reich emblem.

Particularly striking is the large circular:

“Finanzamt” Dienststempel

featuring the Third Reich eagle clutching a swastika.

The card was addressed to Hermann Lasser in Bucha, Post Jena. Postal handling markings include the orange triangular Nr. 92 marking and handwritten/official notations indicating that the recipient was apparently “Nicht angetroffen” — “Not found / not at home.”

The reverse explains the collection procedure and states that the enforcement officer was authorized, in the event of non-payment, to undertake seizure of movable property and certain securities against the tax debtor.

A particularly interesting original example of the everyday bureaucracy, taxation and postal system of Nazi Germany during the middle of WWII.

Condition: Good original used condition with expected age, handling wear, edge/corner wear, postal markings and period notations. Small punched hole near the upper-right corner as shown. Please see all photos for exact condition.
