5 WWII German Feldpost Letters 1943 Soldier Brothers Paul Josef Boenig Wartime Archive

Original group of 5 WWII German Feldpost covers with their handwritten letters still inside, all dating from 1943 and forming a single family correspondence between German soldiers Paul and Josef Boenig, who were brothers.

This is a nice intact wartime correspondence rather than a group of unrelated Feldpost pieces. Most of the envelopes contain multiple handwritten pages, providing a substantial amount of original wartime correspondence.

The covers are addressed primarily to:

Paul Boenig
with his military address/rank information handwritten on the envelopes.

Several carry clear LÜNEN cancellations with 1943 dates, including examples from February, May and June 1943. One envelope is the printed military “Feldpost” type and carries a military eagle/service cancellation.

The letters themselves are particularly interesting. They contain extensive handwritten German text discussing wartime life, family matters and the brothers’ experiences. One letter contains references to military service and combat, including:

“Weltkriegszeit 35–38 …”

and a particularly interesting passage mentioning:

“Malborghetta am Jägerwerk. Im Waldweg sind 80 Bomben gefallen…”

which describes approximately 80 bombs having fallen in the woods/area being discussed. Other passages discuss comrades, work, conditions and news between the brothers.

Several of the letters are densely written on both sides, with additional writing along the margins, giving this group a substantial amount of original research and translation potential.

The correspondence is especially desirable as a named family archive because all five pieces have remained together and document communication between the same two soldier brothers during 1943.

I found modern archival references to the Boenig surname in the Ruhr/Bochum region, but nothing conclusive enough to positively connect those records with these two soldiers, so I have not attributed them to a specific military unit beyond what is visible on the Feldpost material.

Included: 5 original Feldpost covers with their original letters, most containing multiple handwritten pages. Everything shown in the photographs is included.

Condition: Original used wartime condition with age toning, folds, creases, edge/corner wear and opened envelopes. The letters have their original mailing folds and occasional small edge tears or handling wear. Handwriting remains generally strong and legible. Please examine photographs for exact condition.
