WWII German Drunk Soldiers Party Polizei Tschako Helmet Reichsbahn Uniform Photo

A fantastic and very unusual original WWII-era German photograph showing a lively group of off-duty German servicemen partying and drinking together indoors.

The men appear to be having quite a night — several are laughing, drinking, smoking and clowning around for the camera. One man at the right is even posing with what appears to be a bottle tucked into his belt while holding something up for the camera.

Especially interesting is the variety of uniforms represented. One man prominently wears a German Polizei Tschako, the distinctive shako-style helmet associated with the uniformed German police. The Tschako became standardized for the Ordnungspolizei during the period and is immediately recognizable by its characteristic shape and large front insignia.

Another man is dressed in a Deutsche Reichsbahn railway uniform with visor cap, making this an especially interesting mixed-service group photograph. Period Reichsbahn personnel were a uniformed organization, and the distinctive railway visor cap formed part of their service dress.

Rather than another formal studio portrait, this is a great candid snapshot of wartime social life, capturing the men drinking, joking and enjoying themselves away from their normal duties. The Polizei Tschako and Reichsbahn uniform add considerably to the collector appeal.

A terrific photograph for collectors of German Polizei, Reichsbahn, military social history, uniforms, headgear and candid WWII photography.
