WWII Nazi German Luftwaffe Officer Silver Metal Breast Eagle – Assmann

Offered here is a very high-quality reproduction of a WWII German Luftwaffe Officer’s silver metal breast eagle, patterned after the removable metal insignia worn on the white summer uniform.

This attractive insignia features the distinctive Luftwaffe eagle in flight with outstretched wings, clutching a swastika in its talons. The entire piece has a bright silver-colored finish with excellent definition throughout the individual wing and body feathers.

Original Luftwaffe metal breast eagles of this type were specifically intended for the white summer tunic and were removable using a pin-back attachment. Silver-colored examples were used by officers below General rank, while General officers used gold-colored versions.

The reverse features a long horizontal pin, hinge and retaining catch, closely following the traditional construction of period metal summer-uniform eagles.

Of particular interest is the “A” maker mark on the reverse. This represents the firm F. W. Assmann & Söhne of Lüdenscheid, a major German manufacturer of military insignia and decorations. Original Assmann-manufactured Luftwaffe officer summer breast eagles are documented with the characteristic “A” marking on the reverse.

Period Assmann examples are documented at approximately 84 mm (about 3¼ inches) across the wings, making these relatively large and impressive uniform insignia.

The combination of its bright silver finish, highly detailed feathering, period-style pin construction and Assmann-style maker marking gives this reproduction an excellent display appearance.
