WWII German Wehrmacht Driver Proficiency Badge in Bronze – Kraftfahrbewährungsabzeichen

Offered here is a high-quality reproduction of the WWII German Wehrmacht Driver Proficiency Badge in Bronze, officially known as the Kraftfahrbewährungsabzeichen in Bronze.

The Driver Proficiency Badge was instituted on October 23, 1942, with qualifying service applied retroactively to December 1, 1940. It recognized military transport drivers who demonstrated dependable driving ability and proper vehicle maintenance while operating under difficult wartime conditions.

The award was produced in three grades: Bronze, Silver and Gold, with Bronze representing the first grade. Eligibility included drivers of motorcycles, cars, trucks and other military transport vehicles, with qualifying requirements varying according to the vehicle and type of service performed.

This reproduction closely captures the distinctive appearance of the original. The centerpiece consists of a raised steering wheel surrounded by a detailed laurel wreath, set against a textured background. The bronze-colored finish has been given an attractive subdued appearance that nicely highlights the raised details.

The metal insignia is mounted on a round field-gray cloth backing, reproducing the manner in which original examples were constructed and worn. The Driver Proficiency Badge was a sleeve award and was worn on the lower left sleeve/forearm of the uniform.

The reverse is stamped with the LDO ink stamp and  finished with a circular backing piece, giving the badge a clean and complete appearance while helping secure the metal insignia to the cloth.

An especially interesting feature of this award is that, unlike many German military decorations of the period, the Driver Proficiency Badge’s design does not incorporate a swastika, consisting instead of the steering wheel and surrounding laurel wreath.

IMPORTANT: This is a modern high-quality reproduction and is NOT being represented or sold as an original pre-1945 manufactured badge.

Excellent for a Wehrmacht uniform display, vehicle or motorized-unit collection, reenactment, historical exhibit, replacement insignia or WWII militaria collection.

Please examine all photographs carefully for exact construction, cloth backing, finish and condition. Sold exactly as shown.
