WWI Imperial German 1870 Grand Cross Iron Cross – Large Neck Cross – 800 Marked

Offered here is an exceptional-quality reproduction of the Imperial German 1870 Grand Cross of the Iron Cross (Großkreuz des Eisernen Kreuzes). This is the impressive large-sized neck cross, complete with its full-length black and white neck ribbon.

The Grand Cross is noticeably larger than the standard Iron Cross and was designed to be worn prominently around the neck. This example has an especially attractive appearance with its bright silver-colored frame, finely detailed beaded borders, deep black center and large Imperial-style proportions.

The obverse features the classic 1870 Iron Cross design, including the Imperial Prussian crown at the top, large “W” cipher in the center and “1870” date in the lower arm.

The reverse carries the traditional earlier Iron Cross design with the crown and “FW” cipher, oak leaves and “1813” date, giving the cross excellent detail on both sides.

A particularly desirable feature is the clearly struck “800” silver-content-style marking on the upper edge of the frame beneath the suspension eye. The cross is fitted with a substantial suspension ring and comes complete with the wide black and white Imperial neck ribbon.
