Antique 1898 Austro Hungarian Army Prints Franz Joseph 50 Year Jubilee Pair

Offered here is a pair of original antique color military prints dating to 1898, issued in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the reign of Emperor Franz Joseph I, 1848–1898.

The large illustrated military chart is titled:

“1848–1898. Rak.-uher. armáda za 50letého panování císaře a krále Františka Josefa.”

This translates approximately to:

“1848–1898. The Austro-Hungarian Army During the 50-Year Reign of Emperor and King Franz Joseph.”

It is an especially attractive reference chart showing a tremendous variety of Austro-Hungarian military uniforms and troop types arranged chronologically from 1848 through 1898. Individual figures include infantry, cavalry, artillery, mounted troops, officers, medical personnel and other branches, with many soldiers and uniforms individually identified beneath the illustrations.

The second print is titled “Vždy věrní” (“Always Faithful” / “Always Loyal”) and presents a dramatic full-color military scene centered on Emperor Franz Joseph, surrounded by soldiers representing his armed forces.

The subject fits the historical context of Franz Joseph’s 1898 golden jubilee, marking 50 years since his accession in December 1848.

Both pieces measure approximately 12″ x 9″.

Condition

These are in used antique condition and show considerable evidence of their original display and mounting. There are small mounting holes/punctures, age toning, scattered staining/foxing, fold lines and general handling wear. The upper edges have been trimmed slightly. One print has an old period tape repair on the reverse. Please examine the photographs closely for the exact condition and completeness.

Despite the wear, these remain highly decorative and historically interesting late-19th-century Austro-Hungarian military prints, particularly desirable for the extensive illustrated uniform chart.

Both original prints shown are included and sold together as one lot.
