Original 1927 German Turner Paul von Hindenburg 80th Birthday Handball Honor Certificate Award Document

Original 1927 German Ehren-Urkunde (Honor Certificate) featuring a large portrait medallion of Reich President Paul von Hindenburg, issued during the year of his 80th birthday.

The impressive certificate is dated October 2, 1927 and commemorates a handball competition held in Barsinghausen, Germany. The handwritten award inscription reads essentially:

“At the Hindenburg Games on October 2, 1927 in Barsinghausen, the 1st team of Turnerschaft 1877 Stadthagen won 1st prize in the handball match, 3:2 (0:2).”

The upper medallion reads:

“Zum 80. Geburtstage des Reichspräsidenten”
“For the 80th Birthday of the Reich President”

Hindenburg was born October 2, 1847, making the date of the competition his actual 80th birthday.

Issued by the Deutscher Reichsausschuss für Leibesübungen (DRA), the major national German organization governing physical education and organized sport during the Weimar Republic. The bottom features the organization’s large German eagle seal along with three chairman signatures/facsimile signatures.

A particularly attractive pre-Third Reich German sports document with elaborate calligraphy, a large Hindenburg portrait, eagle emblem, handwritten competition results and excellent display appeal.

Measures approximately 12 x 10 inches.

Condition shows expected age and storage wear, including toning, scattered foxing/staining, edge wear and minor creasing. See photographs for exact condition.

A great original piece for collectors of Paul von Hindenburg memorabilia, Weimar Republic history, German sports history, handball memorabilia, Turnerschaft material, Stadthagen/Barsinghausen local history and early 20th-century German documents.
