WW WWI Imperial German Bavaria 14 Regiment silver medal Hartmann Nurnberg 1914

Interesting Imperial German commemorative medal or pendant dated 1914, featuring a detailed military portrait of Prince Regent Luitpold of Bavaria in uniform with decorations and medals.

The obverse bears the portrait surrounded by the inscription:

“14. INF. REG. HARTMANN – NÜRNBERG 1914”

This refers to the 14th Bavarian Infantry Regiment “Hartmann,” associated with Nürnberg (Nuremberg), making this an especially interesting piece for collectors of Bavarian and Imperial German regimental memorabilia.

Luitpold is depicted in an elaborate military uniform with epaulettes and numerous decorations across his chest. The 1914 date places the piece directly at the beginning of the First World War.

The reverse displays a large ornate crowned royal monogram, surrounded by a beaded border, with “1914” divided to either side and another “14” at the bottom. The medal has an integral suspension tab and retains its metal suspension ring, indicating that it was intended to be worn or suspended as a commemorative/regimental pendant.

The connection to Nürnberg, the 14th Infantry Regiment, Bavaria and the outbreak year of WWI makes this a particularly attractive Imperial German military collectible.

Condition: Good original condition with considerable age-related surface wear, rubbing and patina. The raised portrait, lettering, crown and monogram remain clearly visible. Original suspension loop and ring are present. Please see photographs for exact condition.
