Offered here is an original 1943 German “Sterbeurkunde” (Death Certificate) issued by the Standesamt Oldenstadt, Kreis Uelzen, during WWII. The document is Register No. 6 and features a large official civil-registry seal incorporating the German national eagle and swastika.

The certificate records the death of:

Wilma Adele Hermine Behrens, née Kinnemann

According to the handwritten entries, she was residing in Kl. Liedern (Klein Liedern) and died there on:

17 March 1943 at 13:00 (1:00 PM)

She was born on:

26 May 1854

The place of birth appears to read Lehmke.

Her parents are recorded as:

Father: Köthner Christian Kinnemann
Mother: Johanne, née Früchtling

The marital section records that the deceased was married to Heinrich Behrens.

The certificate was officially issued at:

Oldenstadt, 7 April 1943

and bears the handwritten signature of the Standesbeamte (civil registrar), Schütte.

Official Eagle & Swastika Seal

At the lower left is a prominent circular Standesamt Oldenstadt official seal. The center carries the period German national eagle over a swastika, making this an immediately recognizable example of wartime German civil paperwork.

The bottom identifies the document as official Sterbeurkunde Form C 251 / C 252, printed by:

Verlag für Standesamtswesen G.m.b.H., Berlin SW 61, Gitschiner Straße 109

This is an interesting example of the standardized civil-registration paperwork used by German registry offices during WWII.

Condition

Original period-used condition with expected age toning, horizontal and vertical fold lines, light staining/spotting, edge and corner wear, creasing and minor handling marks. There is a small tear/notch along the upper edge and a folded lower-left corner. Despite the age, the handwritten entries remain quite legible and the 1943 date, registrar’s signature and large eagle/swastika official seal display very well.

Please examine all photographs carefully for exact condition. The exact original document shown is included.

A nice named piece of WWII-era German civil and genealogical history, particularly suitable for a collection of German documents, Standesamt records, wartime home-front material or historical ephemera.
