Nazi German Third Reich 1933 Deutschland Erwacht NSDAP Heinrich Hoffmann Tobacco Cigarette Photo Cards Hitler SA SS HJ

Original 1933 German “Deutschland erwacht – Werden, Kampf und Sieg der NSDAP” grouping of five large-format photographic collector cards from Sammelwerk Nr. 8, published by the Cigaretten-Bilderdienst. The series used photographs supplied by Heinrich Hoffmann and was produced as a 225-image album in 1933.

These are particularly attractive examples because all five are larger photographic cards, rather than the smaller cigarette-card format. The backs identify the individual photographs and their picture groups.

The five cards are:

Bild Nr. 33 – “Der Führer ehrt einen deutschen Kämpfer”
Shows Adolf Hitler meeting an injured/bandaged Party member at a large outdoor gathering.

Bild Nr. 43 – “Fahnenhalle im Braunen Haus in München”

The reverse of each card identifies it as part of:

“Sammelwerk Nr. 8: Deutschland erwacht – Werden, Kampf und Sieg der NSDAP.”

The backs also explain that the complete work consisted of Bildergruppen 28–33 and credit Heinrich Hoffmann, the NSDAP’s Reichs-Bildberichterstatter, with supplying the photographic material. Contemporary archival records confirm that these cards were issued as individual photographic reproductions intended for mounting in the Deutschland erwacht album.

An excellent original grouping with strong subject matter covering Hitler, SA, Hitler Youth, the Munich Brown House, NSDAP standards, Leipzig 1933 and early Party history.

Condition

Good original period condition overall with normal age toning, light edge and corner wear, minor surface wear and handling marks. The Bild Nr. 81 Leipzig card has a noticeable tear/split toward the lower-right area, as clearly shown in the photographs. Please examine all photos carefully for exact condition. All five cards shown are included and sold together as one lot.
