Third Reich Nazi German “Flaggen-Post” Envelope Cover Kriegsmarine Swastika Flag

Large original period German “Flaggen-Post” envelope / document cover featuring an impressive full-color illustration of a Third Reich-era German naval-style flag incorporating the Iron Cross and swastika.

The front is boldly printed “Flaggen-Post” beneath the flag illustration. Unlike a normal mailed postal cover, this appears to have been produced as a large presentation, storage, correspondence, or mailing envelope associated with flag-related material. I would describe it as a Flaggen-Post envelope rather than a Reichspost postal-service envelope—the actual Reichspost flags used different designs during this period.

The piece is considerably larger than an ordinary letter envelope. Based on the ruler shown in the photographs, it measures approximately 9½–10 inches wide. The envelope construction and large flap are clearly visible on the reverse.

The front design is particularly attractive, with the flag printed in red, black and white against the otherwise plain cream-colored paper. The bold Fraktur-style “Flaggen-Post” lettering gives it excellent display appeal.

An unusual piece of German period paper ephemera that would display particularly well alongside a collection of Kriegsmarine, German flags, postal history, military correspondence or Third Reich paper items.

Condition

Heavily used original condition with substantial age and storage wear. There is foxing and staining throughout, creasing, wrinkles, edge wear, tears, splits and losses, particularly along the bottom and corners. The reverse flap is creased and damaged, and the envelope has clearly seen considerable handling. Despite this, the important color flag illustration and “Flaggen-Post” title remain strong and highly presentable.
