Epic WWII German Kriegsmarine Sailor Photo Album 347 Wartime Photos Shipboard Life Daggers Swastika Flags

Outstanding and exceptionally extensive original WWII German Kriegsmarine sailor photograph album containing an incredible 347 wartime photographs. This is a major single-sailor grouping documenting years of military service, shipboard life, comrades, travel, training, leisure time and personal life.

This sailor clearly saw and experienced a tremendous amount during his service, and the album provides an unusually broad photographic record rather than simply a collection of formal portraits. Many photographs appear to follow the same sailor and his comrades through different periods and locations.

The album is absolutely packed with material. Subjects visible throughout include Kriegsmarine sailors in uniform, naval officers, shipboard scenes, vessels at sea, deck activity, ports and harbors, large groups of sailors, military installations, winter and mountainous locations, training and working scenes, civilian encounters and personal photographs.

Especially desirable photographs include period swastika flags and banners, Kriegsmarine daggers being worn/displayed, naval insignia and uniforms, sailors posing aboard Kriegsmarine vessels, and photographs showing the sailor together with personnel from other German military branches, including Luftwaffe and Wehrmacht servicemen.

There are also numerous candid photographs that give the album considerable personality: sailors relaxing aboard ship, eating and drinking together, posing with women and civilians, recreational scenes, group celebrations and photographs of the sailor with his sweetheart, including photographs connected with his naval service and time aboard/around the vessel.

One particularly interesting page contains an original hand-drawn colored portrait of a German serviceman dated 15 October 1936, accompanied by handwritten German text and a signature.

The photographs encompass everything from formal uniform portraits to spontaneous snapshots. Several pages contain excellent views of naval uniforms and headgear, shipboard equipment, deck guns/armament, vessels, crews, harbor facilities and wartime-era surroundings. The presence of photographs involving other branches adds considerably to the historical scope of the album.

347 original photographs in one album makes this an exceptionally substantial surviving photographic archive. Albums of this size provide an opportunity to research the individual sailor, his ship, locations, comrades and progression through wartime service.

The original album itself shows age, wear and deterioration consistent with a period piece of this size and use. Photographs vary in size, format, contrast and condition. Please examine all photographs carefully for the exact condition and contents. Sold exactly as shown.

A superb centerpiece for an advanced collection of WWII German naval photography, Kriegsmarine militaria, Third Reich photography, German military photo albums, naval history, wartime ship photography and original soldier groupings.
