WWII Nazi German Luftwaffe Command Swastika Eagle Pennant Flag Displayed Street Photo

Excellent original WWII German photograph showing a large Luftwaffe command/identification pennant prominently displayed from a roadside pole.

The triangular pennant has the unmistakable Luftwaffe flying eagle and swastika emblem in its center. The design consists of a dark field divided by a broad light-colored horizontal center stripe. Period Luftwaffe command pennants used this general arrangement, with the center stripe indicating the Waffenfarbe / branch color. Sources on Luftwaffe vehicle and command pennants document the dark-field/colored-center-stripe pattern as a 1942–1945 design, with a Luftwaffe eagle centered on the pennant.

What makes this photograph particularly interesting is that the pennant is shown in actual period use, rather than simply being photographed as an artifact. A German serviceman stands beside the fence while the pennant is mounted high on its pole. A period automobile is also visible farther down the road.

I would describe it as a Luftwaffe command/identification pennant rather than assign it to a particular unit or branch from this black-and-white photograph alone. The original branch color cannot be determined reliably from the monochrome image, and several Luftwaffe branches used similar pennants with different colored center stripes.

The photograph measures approximately 3¾ x 2¾ inches (9.5 x 7 cm) and has period scalloped/deckle edges. Reverse has several old mounting remnants and a small handwritten notation.

Condition: Original vintage photograph showing normal age, toning and handling wear. Several old album-mount/glue remnants are present on the reverse. Image remains quite clear, with the Luftwaffe eagle and pennant displaying exceptionally well. Please see all photographs for exact condition.

A particularly strong Luftwaffe photograph because the command pennant occupies such a large portion of the image and provides excellent detail of how this type of insignia was displayed during the period.
