WWII German Decorated Wehrmacht Soldier EK1 IAB Wound Badge w Hitler Youth HJ Luftwaffenhelfer Photo

Excellent original WWII German photograph showing three young men together, including two Wehrmacht Heer soldiers and a young Luftwaffenhelfer associated with the Hitler Youth wartime auxiliary program.

The soldier standing in the center is particularly noteworthy because of the impressive group of combat decorations visible on his tunic. His awards appear to include an Iron Cross 1st Class (EK1), an Infantry Assault Badge (Infanterie-Sturmabzeichen / IAB) and a Wound Badge, which appears consistent with the Black Wound Badge, together with a ribbon bar above the breast pocket. This combination is documented on surviving Wehrmacht uniforms and period photographs.

The man at left appears to be another Wehrmacht Heer serviceman. The much younger individual at right is especially interesting and appears consistent with a Hitler Youth Luftwaffenhelfer / Flakhelfer. These teenage auxiliaries were introduced in 1943, with schoolboys generally aged about 15–17 assigned to Luftwaffe duties, particularly anti-aircraft units. They retained their connection to the Hitler Youth while serving alongside Luftwaffe personnel.

The combination therefore makes this a particularly interesting photograph documenting the later-war relationship between regular Wehrmacht personnel and Germany’s young HJ-Luftwaffenhelfer.

The center soldier’s decorations are exceptionally prominent, making this considerably more desirable than a standard three-man snapshot. His EK1, assault badge and wound badge are all readily visible without magnification.

Photograph measures approximately 3¼ x 4½ inches (about 8.3 x 11.5 cm) and retains attractive period deckle/scalloped edges.

Condition: Original vintage photograph with normal age and handling wear. There is a significant light-colored area/photographic defect along the right side that partially obscures the right individual’s arm. Reverse has faint pencil/collector markings. Otherwise the image remains exceptionally sharp with excellent uniform and award detail. Please examine all photographs for exact condition.
