WWI 1918 Imperial German Military War Railway Train Freight Document M.E.D. Bucharest

Original World War I German military railway freight document (Frachtbrief) dating from 1918, an interesting piece of wartime transportation and railway history.

The large form is headed “Frachtbrief” (Freight Waybill) and bears the prominent Imperial German eagle marking:

“MILITÄR-EISENBAHN-DIREKTION 6”
Military Railway Directorate No. 6

The document was used to record the wartime rail shipment, including the railway wagon information, destination, contents, weight, freight charges and routing. It retains handwritten entries along with official dispatch and destination station stamps.

Of particular interest is the printer’s line at the bottom:

“Gedruckt in der Druckerei der M.E.D. 6 Bukarest”

Translation:
“Printed in the printing office of Military Railway Directorate No. 6, Bucharest.”

This connects the form directly with the German military railway administration operating from Bucharest during WWI. The visible station markings appear dated 1918, placing the document firmly in the First World War period.

A substantial and unusual piece of Imperial German WWI military railway ephemera, with excellent display appeal from the large Militär-Eisenbahn-Direktion 6 eagle emblem and its Bucharest connection.

Condition is well-used, with heavy original folds, edge losses, tears, staining, creasing and general age wear. Nothing has been restored; please see all photographs for the exact condition.
