Very interesting early copy of Adolf Hitler’s private last will and testament, dated Berlin, April 29, 1945 at 4:00 a.m., approximately one day before his death.
The German text corresponds to Hitler’s documented private testament, in which he discusses his marriage to Eva Braun, disposition of his property and art collection, appoints Martin Bormann as executor, and states that he and his wife intended to die rather than surrender. The historical testament was signed on April 29, 1945, and copies were entrusted to couriers attempting to leave Berlin.
This particular piece is especially interesting because it appears to be an old period or early postwar reproduction/copy, rather than a modern computer reproduction. It came from a large collection containing original wartime German documents. The paper shows no fluorescence/glow under black light, which can be consistent with older paper, although this alone cannot establish an exact date.
Visible features include:
- Heading “Kanzlei des Führers der NSDAP”
- Typed heading “Letzter Wille!”
- Berlin, 29 April 1945 – 4:00 Uhr
- Typed facsimile “gez. Adolf Hitler”
- Witness names including Martin Bormann and Nikolaus von Below
- Period-style official eagle/seal
- Certification dated 29 April 1945
- Multiple old fold lines and punched filing holes
- Noticeable overall age toning, staining and handling wear
Importantly, this should not be represented as an original Hitler-signed testament. The known original testament documents were carried from Berlin by couriers and recovered after the war; surviving originals are held in major archival collections. This example is best offered as an unusual early copy/facsimile of the historic April 29, 1945 document, with its precise date of production presently unknown.
A fascinating research piece associated with the final days in the Berlin bunker and the collapse of the Third Reich.
Condition: Very old used condition with substantial toning/discoloration, fold creases, filing holes, staining and general age wear. Please examine all photographs carefully. Sold as an old copy/facsimile of the document shown, not as an original signed testament.
