Original August 20, 1937 NSDAP Kreisleitung Trier personnel document issued on impressive National-Sozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei – Gau Koblenz-Trier letterhead.
This is an unusually detailed internal party document concerning Josef Grün of Krördel, Im Mühlenecken 3, and his proposed employment as a worker with the Telegraphenbauamt Trier.
Of particular interest are the large official markings:
“Streng vertraulich!” – “Strictly Confidential!”
and
“Nur für den Dienstgebrauch.” – “For Official Use Only.”
The document also bears a large NSDAP Kreis Trier official seal, period receiving/filing stamps, handwritten administrative markings and a large original signature on behalf of the Kreisleiter.

Subject: Your inquiry of August 13 of this year concerning the worker Josef Grün, Krördel, Im Mühlenecken 3.
The letter states in substance:
Grün has been a Party member since April 1, 1933, under membership number 1,812,312.
He is additionally a member of the NSV and DAF.
Within the NSV he serves as a Blockwalter.
Party member Grün shows an active interest in current affairs, attends Party meetings and events, and subscribes to the NS press.
There are no objections concerning Grün’s political reliability.
I approve the intended employment as a worker at the Telegraph Construction Office.
It closes with the period party salutation Heil Hitler! and is signed:
Der Kreisleiter – I.V.
(for/on behalf of the district leader)
Historical Interest
This is a particularly revealing piece of prewar German administrative history because it documents a political reliability check connected directly to civilian employment.
Rather than simply confirming membership, the Kreisleitung supplied the prospective employer with Grün’s party membership date and number, organizational affiliations, local NSV position, attendance at party functions, newspaper subscription and an explicit assessment of his “politische Zuverlässigkeit” — political reliability.
The document therefore provides a tangible example of the way political-party records and assessments could intersect with employment and administrative decisions in Germany during this period.
The letterhead itself is also highly detailed. It identifies Gau Koblenz-Trier, NSDAP Kreisleitung Trier, its Personalamt, Koblenz headquarters and a number of contemporary party-associated newspapers and administrative accounts.
I did not find a reliable external source that clearly identifies this particular Josef Grün beyond the information contained in the document, so the listing does not attribute him to any similarly named individual found in later records.
Condition
Original period-used condition with horizontal and vertical folds, filing holes at the left, edge wear, small tears, creasing, toning and general handling wear. There is an old paper/tape remnant near the upper center of the letterhead. The typed text remains highly legible, and the “Streng vertraulich!” marking, official Kreis Trier seal and large signature display particularly well.
Please examine all photographs for exact condition.
