Excellent matched 1940 German Wehrmacht soldiers induction/call-up document mailed in the registered mailing cover, issued by the Wehrbezirks-Kommando Friedberg/Hessen to Adolf Wiesner of Schwalheim.
The main document is an “Einberufungsbefehl A” — Call-Up / Induction Order, ordering Wiesner to report for active military service on:
13 June 1940 by 14:00 (2:00 PM)
to:
Inf. Ers. Batl. 367
1.–3. Inf. Ers. Kp.
Hanau
This identifies his destination as Infanterie-Ersatz-Bataillon 367, with the order referencing the 1st–3rd Infantry Replacement Companies at Hanau.
Additional Order Attached
An additional typed “Befehl” (Order) from the Wehrbezirks-Kommando Friedberg/Hessen, dated 5 June 1940, is attached at the top.
It instructs the recipient, in addition to the main call-up order, to report on 13 June at the entrance hall of the railway station in Friedberg, where an NCO from the Wehrbezirks-Kommando would receive him.
The order is signed “Im Auftrage” by an Oberleutnant.
This additional instruction makes the grouping considerably more interesting than a standard blank or isolated induction form because it documents part of the actual process of assembling the recruit and transporting him to his assigned replacement unit.
Special Instructions
The reverse/attached section contains the printed “Besondere Anordnungen” — Special Instructions given to the recruit.
Among other requirements, the document explains his obligations upon reporting and provides a detailed list of personal articles he was expected to bring with him.
The equipment list includes items such as:
- Shirts and underwear
- Socks
- Handkerchiefs
- Towels
- Sweater
- Gloves
- Soap and toiletries
- Shaving equipment
- Sewing materials
- Writing materials
- Food for approximately two days
The form also states that the Einberufungsbefehl was valid as a railway travel authorization, an interesting feature of the mobilization system.
Original Registered Wehrmacht Cover
Included is the original “Postkarte – Eilige Wehrmachtssache” mailing piece addressed to:
Herrn Adolf Wiesner
born 14.4.08
Schwalheim
Hauptstr. 26
The cover bears an official Wehrbezirks-Kommando Friedberg eagle-and-swastika stamp, a Friedberg (Hessen) 10.6.40 postal cancellation and a red registered-mail label “Friedberg (Hess) 892.”
It is additionally marked:
“Eilige Wehrmachtssache”
Urgent Armed Forces Matter
and:
“Frei durch Ablösung Reich!”
The surviving original mailing piece is an excellent addition because it ties the induction order directly to its recipient and shows how the order was actually transmitted through the wartime postal system.
Historical Context
The timing is especially interesting. Wiesner was ordered to report on 13 June 1940, during the final phase of the German campaign in France and only days before the French government sought an armistice.
Replacement battalions such as Infanterie-Ersatz-Bataillon 367 were part of the Wehrmacht’s replacement and training system, receiving and preparing personnel before their subsequent assignment within the Army.
Condition
Original matched wartime grouping showing expected period use and storage. The induction document has several folds, creasing, edge wear and general age toning. The attached supplementary order remains present and has a clear officer signature. Numerous purple Wehrmacht administrative stamps remain visible.
The original mailing cover shows folds, age toning and handling wear but retains its registered-mail label, Friedberg postal cancellation, recipient information and Wehrmacht official stamp.
Please see all photographs for exact condition.
A very complete and displayable 1940 Wehrmacht induction grouping consisting of the call-up order, supplementary reporting instructions and its original registered official mailing cover.
