Interesting WWII-era German postal history and postcard grouping consisting of 4 postcards and 2 original mailed envelopes, with material dating from approximately 1940 through 1945.

The group has a strong Furth im Wald / Bavarian regional connection and includes several attractive prewar/wartime photographic views.

Included are:

  • Furth im Wald mit Schwarzkoppe (Čerchov) — photographic town panorama showing Furth im Wald with the surrounding Bavarian/Bohemian border mountains.
  • Furth im Wald – Fliegeraufnahme — excellent aerial photograph showing the town, streets, church and surrounding countryside.
  • Rankam bei Furth i/Wald – Total-Ansicht — panoramic photographic view of Rankam and the surrounding landscape.
  • “Spiel der Möven” photographic/art postcard by Anne Uknörer.
  • Two period envelopes, both retaining their original German postage stamps and cancellations.

The envelopes are addressed to Herrn Hermann Lenzer. One bears a 3 Pfennig Hindenburg definitive, while the other bears a 12 Pfennig Hindenburg issue and has printed advertising for:

Ed. Hänsgen
Kohlenhandlung
Großschwabhausen i. Thür.

The reverse sides add considerably to the postal-history interest. Two of the postcards were actually mailed and contain extensive handwritten German correspondence.

One postcard bears a 6 Pfennig German definitive and a Furth im Wald cancellation, dated 18.1.1940.

The other is particularly interesting as a late-war January 1945 usage, bearing a 6 Pfennig German stamp and a clear Bad Kissingen cancellation dated 16.1.45. It is addressed to Franz Moar/Moos at Kessendorfweiler, with a lengthy handwritten message dated 5 January 1945.

Together this makes an appealing small wartime correspondence and regional-history lot spanning several years of the period, rather than simply a group of unused scenic postcards.

Condition

Original period condition as shown. The postcards display varying degrees of edge/corner wear, toning, staining and handling. The envelopes have considerably more wear, including folds, creases, edge tears and age toning. Stamps and cancellations remain present. The two mailed postcards retain their handwritten messages.

Please examine all photographs carefully for exact condition and contents. Items pictured are the items you will receive.
