WW2 German Soldiers Call of Duty 1937 Wehrmacht Military Registration Summons

Original 1937 German Wehrmacht military registration document (Aufforderung) issued by the Wehrmeldeamt Löbau and dated March 5, 1937.

The document was issued to Kurt Seiler of Neugersdorf as part of the German military registration and conscription system. It instructed him, as a person liable for military service, to report to the appropriate police registration authority for preparation of his Wehrstammblatt, or permanent military personnel/registration record.

The main text translates approximately as:

“Summons

In your capacity as a person liable for military service on leave status, you are hereby instructed to report to the police registration authority responsible for you for the preparation of your military personnel record.

You are to appear there during official office hours during the period from March 8, 1937 to March 31, 1937.

This summons is to be brought with you as identification and presented to the police registration authority. You must also bring two passport photographs, 37 × 52 mm, in civilian clothing and without head covering.

Failure without excuse to comply with this summons may result in punishment under the applicable military regulations.”

The reverse records that Kurt Seiler subsequently appeared for preparation of his Wehrstammblatt, with an additional police registration authority certification and official stamp.

This is a particularly nice example of an early prewar Wehrmacht mobilization and personnel-registration document, dating from only two years after the reintroduction of German conscription in 1935. It illustrates the administrative process by which military-age German men were registered and documented before the outbreak of WWII.
