Original 1941 German proof of ancestry genealogical and ancestry-research correspondence concerning the Wiedemann family, consisting of a handwritten inquiry and a typed response from Olbersleben, dated August 14–17, 1941.

The handwritten document is addressed to the Evangelical parish office at Olbersleben and requests assistance locating additional information from church registers concerning several members of the Wiedemann family.

The individuals listed include:

Emma Maria Luise Wiedemann — born January 18, 1870 in Olbersleben

Gottlob Wiedemann — birth information unknown and specifically being sought

Ernestine Louise — born January 23, 1872

The writer asks the parish office to provide the missing information from the relevant church records. The document bears handwritten reference markings including “L-12763” and the date 14.8.41.

The accompanying typed reply is dated:

Olbersleben, August 17, 1941

English Translation of the Reply

“Dear Mr. Müller,

Enclosed I am sending you the extract from the church registers.

Gottlob Wiedemann was not born in Olbersleben, but rather in Erfurt. If you require further information concerning this person, please contact the Civil Registry Office in Erfurt.”

The letter concludes with the period salutation and an original handwritten signature. It also notes “1 Anlage”, indicating that one enclosure accompanied the response.

This is a good example of the extensive genealogical research and correspondence conducted through German parish and civil registries during the Third reich period. The pairing is particularly desirable because both sides of the research process survive together—the original handwritten request identifying the family members and the parish response providing the results of its search.

Condition: original period document shows considerable age toning and scattered foxing, along with old horizontal and vertical mailing/storage folds, creasing and general handling wear. The handwriting and typewritten text remain legible. The typed response retains its handwritten signature. Please see photographs for exact condition.
