WWI Imperial German 1916 Military Feldpost Postcard Soldiers Airplane Köln Dortmund

Original WWI German military Feldpost postcard dated 1916, featuring a fantastic humorous composite image of five Imperial German soldiers posed with an early airplane.

Across the top is the caption:

“Richtung Köln–Dortmund!”

Translation:

“Direction Cologne–Dortmund!”

The unusual photographic montage shows four soldiers seated in the aircraft while a fifth humorously hangs below it. The background includes a panoramic view of a German town. This is an especially interesting early aviation-themed military postcard from the First World War.

The reverse is heavily handwritten and carries a clear K.D. Feldpoststation No. 127 cancellation dated July 20, 1916. It also bears a purple military unit handstamp. Printed along the edge:

“Otto Lehmann, Photograph, Bitsch i. Lothr. – Kriegsjahr 1916”

Translation:

“Otto Lehmann, Photographer, Bitsch in Lorraine – War Year 1916.”

Card number 3192.

An excellent WWI collectible combining Imperial German soldiers, early military aviation imagery, Feldpost postal history and a clearly identified wartime photographer.

Condition is as shown with age toning, staining/soiling, handwriting, edge and corner wear and general handling consistent with a field-used 1916 postcard.
