1935 Third Reich Nazi German Cover Breslau Hindenburg Pr RLB Reichsluftschutz Swastika Cancel

Original 1935 Third Reich German postcard, mailed from Breslau on August 11, 1935 and addressed to Joseph Lüttgen in Helmstedt, Braunschweig.

The cover is franked with a pair of 3 Pfennig Hindenburg stamps and has a clear Breslau 2 cancellation. Particularly interesting is the propaganda slogan cancellation associated with the Reichsluftschutz (air-raid protection organization), making this a nice Third Reich postal-history piece.

The original and interesting handwritten contents concern stamp collecting and trading, including requests for recent issues and references to colonial stamps, South America, airmail, official/service stamps, charity issues, and particularly a Saargebiet Abstimmung (Saar plebiscite) set.

English Translation

The handwriting is difficult in a few places, but the main text reads approximately:

Breslau, August 11, 1935

“Dear Mr. Lüttgen,

What you tell me is entirely in line with my own feelings. I must say that during this great heat it is not much fun occupying oneself with stamps. But since my trading friends keep asking me for the new issues, I must turn to you again.

I therefore need up to 100 pieces of the latest issues, but also colonial issues, South America, airmail, official/service stamps, charity issues, etc., and I would be very pleased to receive a collection from you soon.

Does your friend once again have something inexpensive to offer? I would also very much like to acquire a set of the Saar Territory plebiscite issues. Do you have one, and at what price?

With best regards,

[signature]”

The Saargebiet-Abstimmung reference is especially interesting because the Saar plebiscite had taken place earlier in 1935.

Condition is as shown with normal age, toning and handling wear. The original letter remains with the cover.
