1911 King Ludwig II Bavaria Otto Schloss Berg Memorial Postcard German Bavarian

Original 1911 Bavarian postcard commemorating King Ludwig II of Bavaria, featuring an especially interesting combination of royal portraits and locations associated with Ludwig II and his brother Otto.

The left image shows Crown Prince Ludwig, later King Ludwig II, together with his younger brother Prince Otto, later King Otto I, photographed in military uniforms during their youth.

The captions read:

“Bayerns Stolz” — “Bavaria’s Pride”
“Bayerns Leid” — “Bavaria’s Sorrow”

The upper-right view depicts Schloss Berg on Lake Starnberg, where Ludwig II spent his final days in June 1886 and near which he died.

The lower-right view shows Schloss Fürstenried, where Ludwig’s brother Otto lived for many years.

The reverse states:

“Zur Feier der Enthüllung des Denkmals König Ludwigs II.”
Translation: “In celebration of the unveiling of the monument to King Ludwig II.”

The card was mailed from Munich on November 23, 1911, and retains its original 5 Pfennig Bavaria stamp. The postcard was published by Philipp Keneder, München, with printing by F. Bruckmann A.-G., München.

A particularly attractive early Bavarian royal postcard combining Ludwig II, Otto I, Schloss Berg and Schloss Fürstenried with genuine period postal usage.
