WWI 1916 Imperial German Soldiers Red Cross Feldpost Postcard Bavarian Landsturm

Original WWI German military Feldpost welfare postcard, postally used in 1916, featuring a colorful scene of German soldiers on horseback stopping in a Bavarian town.

The illustration shows mounted soldiers in field uniforms being offered refreshments by a local woman, with a child, dog and townspeople nearby. A nice detailed home-front scene connecting German troops with the civilian population during WWI.

The reverse is printed:

“Feld-Post Wohlfahrtskarte”
Translation: “Field Post Welfare Card.”

It was issued by the Verband deutscher Krankenpflege-Anstalten vom Roten Kreuz — an organization associated with German Red Cross nursing institutions. The printed price was 10 Pfennig, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting wartime charitable work.

Especially interesting is the large purple military marking:

“Kgl. 4. bayr. Landst.-Inf.-Batl.”

This identifies it with a Royal Bavarian Landsturm Infantry Battalion, giving the card additional Bavarian military interest.

The card is dated June 9, 1916 in the handwritten correspondence and was sent to Frau Centa Habler in Hagers, Post Straubing, Niederbayern.

A very nice original WWI piece combining Feldpost, Bavarian Landsturm, German Red Cross welfare work, military artwork and genuine wartime correspondence.
