1900 Prince Regent Luitpold Bavaria Military War Medals Color German Postcard

Original 1900 Bavarian royal postcard featuring a striking color portrait of Prince Regent Luitpold of Bavaria in full military uniform with an impressive display of medals, orders and decorations.

The German caption reads:

“Se. Königl. Hoheit Prinzregent Luitpold, des Königreichs Bayern Verweser.”

Translation:

“His Royal Highness Prince Regent Luitpold, Regent of the Kingdom of Bavaria.”

Luitpold is shown wearing his decorated Bavarian military uniform, ceremonial sash and numerous royal and military orders, including prominent cross-shaped decorations.

Especially interesting is the printed notation along the bottom:

“Neueste Originalaufnahme von Hofphotograph B. Dittmar, München 1900.”

Translation:

“Latest original photograph by court photographer B. Dittmar, Munich, 1900.”

The left margin identifies the publisher as C. Andelfinger & Cie., Kunstanstalt, München, No. 3223.

The reverse is an early undivided-back “Postkarte” format and is completely unused, with no writing, stamp or postal cancellation.

A very attractive early 1900 Bavarian royal and military portrait postcard, particularly desirable for its dated court-photographer portrait and detailed display of Luitpold’s decorations.

Condition shows age-related toning, some light spotting/soiling, minor handling wear and corner/edge wear, including wear at the upper-right corner. Please examine all photographs carefully for exact condition. Item shown is the exact item you will receive.
