Historical Background
The Kreistag held in Krems in 1939 was accompanied by numerous commemorative postcards and propaganda souvenirs celebrating the recently annexed Austrian region and promoting the activities of Kraft durch Freude (Strength Through Joy) under the leadership of Dr. Robert Ley. Such locally issued cards are considerably scarcer than standard tourist postcards and are sought after by collectors of regional and political ephemera.
A desirable combination of Wachau history, Austrian regional heritage, and 1939 commemorative material.
