WWII Nazi German Luftwaffe Swastika Eagle RLB Luftschutzdienst Air Raid Defense Armband

Vintage reproduction German Luftschutzdienst (Air Raid Protection Service) armband, featuring a blue Luftwaffe-style eagle and swastika above the prominent Gothic-script inscription “Luftschutzdienst.”

Printed on off-white cotton fabric with folded and stitched edges, this older reproduction displays attractive period-style typography and a distinctive two-color design.

Historical Background

Luftschutz refers to the civil air-defense system developed in Germany before and during World War II.

Air-raid protection became increasingly important as Allied bombing campaigns expanded. Civil defense personnel and volunteers assisted with blackout enforcement, air-raid precautions, shelter management, rescue operations, fire prevention, and recovery after bombing attacks.

Germany’s air-defense structure included organizations such as the Reichsluftschutzbund (RLB), which promoted civilian air-raid preparedness, and other official and auxiliary services.

The term Luftschutzdienst translates as Air Raid Protection Service. The armband reproduces a service-identification design, although its precise wartime regulatory pattern has not been verified.
