About Hans-Ulrich Rudel
Hans-Ulrich Rudel (2 July 1916 – 18 December 1982) served as a Luftwaffe dive bomber and ground attack pilot, primarily flying the legendary Junkers Ju 87 “Stuka.” He became the most decorated German serviceman of the Second World War through his extraordinary combat record.
His remarkable achievements include:

Over 2,500 combat missions
Destruction of more than 500 Soviet tanks
Sinking the Soviet battleship Marat
Numerous bridges, armored vehicles, artillery positions, and other military targets destroyed
Continued flying combat missions even after losing part of his right leg, using a prosthetic limb

Rudel remains the only person ever awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross with Golden Oak Leaves, Swords and Diamonds, the highest grade of the Knight’s Cross created during the war. No other recipient received this final and unique decoration.
