Offered here is an original pre-WWII Third Reich presentation copy of Adolf Hitler’s Mein Kampf, the special municipal wedding edition traditionally presented to newly married German couples. This example was officially presented on June 29, 1938, making it a particularly desirable dated historical artifact from the prewar Third Reich period.

The book is the 1937 two-volume-in-one-volume edition, identified on the title page as the 234th–238th printing (234.–238. Auflage), published in Munich by the Zentralverlag der NSDAP., Franz Eher Nachf. The spine is gilt titled “Adolf Hitler – Mein Kampf” with decorative oak leaves/acorns.

What makes this example especially collectible is the original municipal presentation page at the front. It bears a handwritten 29 June 1938 date, the mayor’s signature, and an official “Standesamt Wildentodt” civil registry stamp incorporating the period state eagle emblem.

Presentation Page Translation

German:
“Dem jungvermählten Paare
mit den besten Wünschen für
eine glückliche und gesegnete
Ehe überreicht von der
Gemeinde
am 29. Juni 1938
Der Bürgermeister”

English:

“Presented to the newly married couple, with the best wishes for a happy and blessed marriage, by the municipality, on June 29, 1938. The Mayor.”

The circular stamp reads approximately:

“Standesamt Wildentodt”
Translation: “Civil Registry Office, Wildentodt.”

The title page reads:

“Mein Kampf – Von Adolf Hitler – Zwei Bände in einem Band”
Translation: “Mein Kampf – By Adolf Hitler – Two Volumes in One Volume.”

“Erster Band: Eine Abrechnung”
Translation: “First Volume: A Reckoning.”

“Zweiter Band: Die nationalsozialistische Bewegung”
Translation: “Second Volume: The National Socialist Movement.”

“234.–238. Auflage”
Translation: “234th–238th Printing.”

“Zentralverlag der NSDAP., Frz. Eher Nachf., München”
Translation: “Central Publishing House of the NSDAP, Franz Eher Successors, Munich.”

The book retains the well-known frontispiece portrait and printed facsimile signature. It also contains the memorial page concerning the men killed during the November 9, 1923 Munich putsch, listing their names and concluding with a statement dated Landsberg am Lech, October 16, 1924.

The rear advertising section is also historically interesting, promoting numerous contemporary Third Reich publications, books and periodicals. Visible advertisements include works by Alfred Rosenberg, Joseph Goebbels, Hans Zöberlein, Robert Ley, Otto Dietrich, and others, along with publications such as Nationalsozialistische Monatshefte and Illustrierter Beobachter. These publisher advertisements provide an excellent snapshot of the political publishing environment of Germany during the period.

One particularly notable advertisement lists “Die Juden in Deutschland” (“The Jews in Germany”), described as published by the Institut zum Studium der Judenfrage (“Institute for the Study of the Jewish Question”), illustrating the antisemitic propaganda literature being marketed by the regime’s publishing apparatus at the time.

Condition

This is an authentic period-used example showing substantial exterior wear, particularly to the spine and binding edges. The spine covering has losses, rubbing, separation and deterioration, especially along the hinges and extremities. The boards show age, discoloration and handling wear. Interior pages appear considerably better preserved overall, with expected age toning and scattered wear.

Please carefully examine all photographs for the exact condition. The exterior binding is distressed and is being sold exactly as shown.

Despite the binding wear, the original dated 1938 municipal wedding presentation page, mayoral signature, Standesamt stamp, 1937 title page, frontispiece and extensive original contents remain important features.

This is far more historically interesting than an ordinary undedicated copy. The documented wedding presentation provenance firmly places this individual book in the Third Reich-era civil tradition of presenting copies to newly married couples, creating a direct connection to everyday municipal life in Germany in 1938, just before the outbreak of WWII.

An excellent addition to an advanced collection of original Third Reich books, German historical documents, political publications, wedding presentation editions, NSDAP ephemera, pre-WWII German history, propaganda studies, or 20th-century European historical material.

Guaranteed original period item — not a modern reproduction.

Items are sold as shown and as-is. Please review all photographs carefully for condition and details. We combine shipping and ship every day, including Saturdays.
