Excellent original late-WWII German Sterbeurkunde (official death certificate) issued by the Standesamt Altena (Westfalen) in the final weeks of the war. The document is numbered 140/1945, records a death on 19 March 1945, and was officially issued and signed the following day, 20 March 1945.

The certificate is for Klara Stiepel, listed as Protestant (evangelisch), residing at Bachstraße 4 in Altena. She was born 3 August 1876 in Borbeck, now Essen, and died at her residence in Altena at 17:00 (5:00 PM).

The document also records valuable genealogical information:

Father: August Stiepel, deceased, formerly residing in Essen-Borbeck
Mother: Mathilde Stiepel, née Sachs, deceased, formerly residing in Essen-Borbeck
Marital status: Listed as not married

A particularly strong feature is the original official Standesamt Altena administrative seal featuring the period German state eagle and swastika, accompanied by the handwritten signature of the Standesbeamte (civil registrar). The document was issued during an especially significant historical period—March 1945, only weeks before the collapse of the Third Reich and the end of WWII in Europe.

The German title “Sterbeurkunde” translates directly as “Death Certificate.” This was an official civil-registry document recording the identity, residence, birth information, parentage, marital status, date, time and location of death.

A strong example of authentic Third Reich-era German civil documentation, with excellent period typography, official markings and a desirable late-war 1945 date.

Highlights: Original WWII-era German document; dated March 1945; issued at Altena, Westphalia; original Third Reich eagle/swastika government seal; signed by the civil registrar; named and numbered document; Essen-Borbeck genealogical connection; issued during the final weeks of the European war; excellent historical research and display piece.

Condition is original as shown, with age toning, horizontal and vertical storage folds, light handling/edge wear and other expected period wear. The typed information, official seal and signature remain clearly visible. Please examine all photographs carefully for exact condition.

An excellent addition to a collection of original WWII German paperwork, Third Reich documents, German civil records, Standesamt documents, wartime ephemera, genealogy material, official government seals and 1945 historical documents.
