1901 Prince Regent Luitpold Bavaria 80th Birthday Patriotic German Military Postcard

Original 1901 Bavarian commemorative postcard issued for the 80th birthday of Prince Regent Luitpold of Bavaria, dated March 12, 1901.

The colorful patriotic artwork features a central portrait of Prince Regent Luitpold in decorated military uniform, surrounded by Bavarian symbolism. At left is an allegorical female figure holding the Bavarian coat of arms, while at right Bavarian citizens—including a blacksmith holding his hammer and a young girl with flowers—pay tribute to the Prince Regent.

Across the top is:

“Zum 12. März 1901.”
Translation: “For March 12, 1901.”

The printed German verse begins:

“Achtzig Jahre reich an Mühen,
Aber auch an Liebe reich…”

The verse celebrates Luitpold’s 80 years of life, his service to Bavaria, and the loyalty and good wishes of the Bavarian people, ending with:

“Halt’ Dich Gott in treuer Hut!”
Translation: “May God keep you in faithful protection!”

The reverse is headed:

“Königreich Bayern – Postkarte”
“Kingdom of Bavaria – Postcard.”

This example is unused, retaining a clean undivided-style reverse with no writing, stamp or cancellation.
