1930s Third Reich Nazi German Bamberg Cathedral Bamberg Horseman Reiter Photo Postcard

Original pre-WWII German real photo art postcard featuring the famous Bamberger Reiter (Bamberg Horseman) inside Bamberg Cathedral (Bamberger Dom) in Bavaria, Germany.

The impressive medieval stone equestrian sculpture is shown in excellent detail, depicting the crowned rider seated upon his horse. The Bamberg Horseman dates to approximately 1230–1240 and is one of the best-known surviving monumental equestrian sculptures of medieval Germany.

The reverse is clearly printed:

“Weltkunstkarte Nr. 339 / Bamberg, Dom. Der Reiter. Stein. Um 1230–40.”

Translation:

“World Art Card No. 339 / Bamberg, Cathedral. The Horseman. Stone. Circa 1230–40.”

The card is additionally marked “Echte Photokarte” — “Genuine Photo Postcard.”

Published by Bärenreiter-Verlag, Kassel, with the image credited to Kunstgeschichtliches Seminar, Marburg. A handwritten notation on the reverse appears to read 18/5/37, likely indicating May 18, 1937.

Condition: Original vintage condition with light age/handling wear, minor corner wear and handwritten inventory/date markings on the reverse. Unmailed and unused otherwise. Please see photos for exact condition.
