Offered here is an interesting German Catholic baptismal certificate extract (Taufzeugnis) originally prepared from an 1854 church baptismal record, later officially certified in 1934 by the director of a state girls’ secondary school in Hamborn. It carries a large period German eagle and swastika school seal.
The document is headed:
“Abschrift! – Taufzeugnis”
“Copy – Baptismal Certificate”
The typed text records that on 11 April 1854, a son was born in Kreuzenort to:
Father: Carl Porwoll, described as a fürstlicher Reitknecht — a princely riding servant/groom
Mother: Carolina, née Magiera
The child was baptized on 17 April 1854 and given the name:
Eduard
The lower portion states:
“Kreuzenort, den 10. Januar 1903
Das kath. Pfarramt
gez. Porsohke, Pfarrer.”
Translation:
“Kreuzenort, January 10, 1903
The Catholic Parish Office
signed Porsohke, Pastor.”
This indicates the underlying church extract was issued by the Catholic parish office in 1903, based upon the considerably earlier 1854 baptismal entry.
1934 Official Certification
The most interesting feature for a Third Reich document collection is the later official certification added at Hamborn. The purple stamp reads:
“Die Richtigkeit bescheinigt”
— “The accuracy is certified”
and is dated:
Hamborn, 11 January 1934
It identifies the certifying official as:
“Die Direktorin des staatl. Oberlyzeums”
— “The Director of the State Oberlyzeum”, a state higher secondary school for girls.
Below is an original handwritten signature, apparently Prof. Günner.
Beside this certification is a large circular purple school seal reading approximately:
“Staatliches Oberlyzeum mit Frauenschule – Duisburg-Hamborn”
with a prominent period German eagle and swastika in the center.
This combination makes the document particularly interesting: it connects an 1854 Catholic baptismal record, a 1903 parish-issued transcription, and a 1934 Third Reich-era official school certification on the same piece.
Condition
Original period-used condition with age toning, multiple horizontal and vertical folds, creasing, edge wear and several small tears/separations along the folds and edges. The typed information remains highly legible. The 1934 certification, handwritten signature and eagle/swastika school seal remain clearly visible, although the purple seal shows some fading consistent with age.
Please examine all photographs carefully for exact condition. The exact document shown is included.
An unusual multi-period piece of German genealogical, Catholic church and educational history, particularly interesting because of its 1854 baptismal information, 1903 Catholic parish certification and subsequent 1934 Duisburg-Hamborn state-school certification.
