The portrait therefore dates to only a few months before Dollfuss was assassinated during the failed Austrian Nazi July Putsch on July 25, 1934.

The reverse has the traditional divided postcard layout and is unused with no message, address, postage stamp, or postal cancellation.

Engelbert Dollfuss served as Chancellor of Austria from 1932 until his assassination in July 1934. Contemporary Dollfuss postcards and memorabilia remain collectible pieces of Austrian interwar history.
