1939 German Soldiers Deutsche Wehrmacht Armband Photo Hünenborg Rheine Memorial

Offered is an original 1939 German military photograph showing two uniformed soldiers accompanied by two women at the historic Hünenborg (Hünenburg) War Memorial on the Thieberg in the Wadelheim district of Rheine, Germany.

The distinctive circular stone monument was built in 1927 as a memorial to local men who died during World War I. This photograph capture the monument only twelve years after its construction, making them particularly interesting images of the site.

Both soldiers are clearly wearing “Deutsche Wehrmacht” armbands on their upper sleeves, an excellent period uniform detail. The group is photographed posed directly in front of the massive stone pillars of the Hünenborg.

The backs of the photograph is hand-dated “1939” and carry repeating Lupex photographic-paper markings, further supporting their period origin. The photograph has attractive deckle/scalloped edges.
