Rare Original wartime German business and political circular signed document is dated 9 September 1942, issued by the Südwestfälische Industrie- und Handelskammer zu Hagen – Hauptgeschäftsstelle (South Westphalian Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Hagen).
The document was distributed to Geschäftsinhaber und Betriebsführer — business owners and company managers — concerning an upcoming public appearance by Gauleiter Giesler in Hagen.
Subject – Gauleiter Giesler Speech
The prominent heading reads:
“Gauleiter Giesler spricht”
“Gauleiter Giesler speaks”
It announces that Giesler was scheduled to speak on:
Wednesday, 16 September 1942 at 4:00 PM
Stadthalle, Hagen
The occasion was the opening of that year’s Winterhilfswerk, the large national winter-relief collection program operating in Germany during the period.
The document explains that the event could not be held later because Giesler was required elsewhere on official business and had to travel to Munich that same evening.
Interesting Content
The circular states that Kreisleiter Schmidt appealed to all local business owners and managers to attend personally and to send one employee who could be spared from the shop, office or business that afternoon.
The stated intention was to turn the meeting into a:
“Vertrauenskundgebung für den Gauleiter”
which translates approximately as a demonstration of confidence/support for the Gauleiter.
The final paragraph expresses the hope that the appeal would receive a strong response from members of the local economy and that everyone who could possibly attend would participate.
The document concludes with the period political salutation “Heil Hitler!”
Signatures & Official Markings
The bottom bears two large signatures above the titles:
Präsident – President
Hauptgeschäftsführer – Chief Executive/General Manager
The upper-right corner has an original receiving/filing stamp:
“Eing. 10. SEP. 1942”
indicating the document was received on 10 September 1942, one day after it was issued.
The Chamber letterhead also retains the period telephone number 26751.
Historical Interest
An interesting surviving piece of wartime German home-front and economic administration, showing how a regional Chamber of Industry and Commerce communicated directly with local businesses concerning attendance at a political gathering.
The combination of Gauleiter Giesler, Winterhilfswerk, Hagen, wartime business administration, dated receiving stamp, political wording and original signatures makes this a particularly detailed period document.
Condition
Original document with substantial period handling and storage wear, including horizontal and vertical folds, two filing holes along the left side, edge wear, small tears/nicks, toning, creasing and staining/discoloration, particularly toward the upper-right corner. Printing, signatures and the 1942 receiving stamp remain clearly visible.
Please examine all photographs carefully for exact condition.
