Original post-WWII German denazification-era sworn declaration, dated July 3, 1947, in Weimar and signed in ink by Hans Bartsch.

The document is headed “Eidesstattliche Versicherung” — “Sworn Declaration / Affidavit.” It was used to formally document an individual’s relationship, or lack thereof, with the NSDAP and other political, paramilitary, and military organizations following the collapse of the Third Reich.

The form specifically asks about membership in the NSDAP, whether the individual held Party offices such as Blockleiter or Zellenleiter, and service or membership in organizations including the Wehrmacht, Waffen-SS, SA and NSKK.

Bartsch states that he was not a member of the NSDAP and records his military service as:

“Der Wehrmacht – Uffz.”

Meaning that he belonged to the Wehrmacht with the rank of Unteroffizier (NCO).

English Translation

Sworn Declaration

“I hereby declare under oath that I did not belong to the NSDAP.

In the NSDAP I held no office / the following office:
(Block Leader, Cell Leader, etc.)

I did not belong / belonged to the Wehrmacht, Waffen-SS, SA, NSD, NSKK and NSFK with the following rank:

The Wehrmacht – Unteroffizier.

I know that false statements will be severely punished according to the applicable criminal laws.

Items which do not apply are to be crossed out.

Weimar, July 3, 1947

Hans Bartsch
(Signature)”

An interesting piece of immediate postwar German history documenting the Allied denazification period and the process by which former German servicemen and civilians were required to declare their wartime political and organizational affiliations.

Particularly desirable as a research document because it specifically names numerous Third Reich organizations while recording the subject’s claimed non-membership in the NSDAP and service as a Wehrmacht Unteroffizier.

Original period document with handwritten entries and original ink signature. Shows age toning, folds, creasing, spotting and general handling/storage wear as photographed. Please examine all images for exact condition.
