Original period Third Reich Sammelwerk Nr. 15 “Adolf Hitler” illustrated sheets from the German cigarette-picture/book collecting series. This lot includes 7 loose illustrated plates, all relating to artwork and scenes associated with Hitler’s First World War service and the Frontsoldaten series.

The backs identify these as part of Sammelwerk Nr. 15 – Adolf Hitler, with individual Bild Nr. and Gruppe numbers. Several specifically identify the artwork as “Aquarell des Frontsoldaten Hitler” (watercolor by the front-line soldier Hitler) or “Die Zeichnungen des Frontsoldaten Hitler” (drawings by the front-line soldier Hitler).

Subjects visible in the lot include architectural scenes, wartime ruins, a church, damaged rural buildings, and Munich architecture. Two of the watercolor ruin scenes appear to be duplicates, as do two of the architectural/workshop scenes.

The reverse text credits the selection and artistic treatment of the images to Heinrich Hoffmann, the Reich picture reporter of the NSDAP, with design for binding/title by P. H. W. Hadank, Berlin and graphic design by Carl Ernst Poeschel, Leipzig.

An interesting group of period printed artwork connected with the Third Reich’s presentation of Hitler’s WWI military service and artwork.

Condition

Original period pieces showing age and handling wear. There are edge and corner bends, creases, small tears/chips, toning, staining and other storage wear. Some sheets retain portions of the original margins marked “Bitte hier abschneiden” (“Please cut here”). Please examine all photographs carefully for exact condition and contents.
