DRK Red Cross Nurse Wounded Soldier Hospital WWII German Wehrmacht Photo lot x 2

Original lot of 2 WWII German photographs, both with handwritten period captions on the reverse and attractive deckle/scalloped edges.

The first photograph is dated 3 November 1939 and shows a large formation of German Wehrmacht soldiers lined up beside vehicles, apparently shortly after the beginning of WWII.

Back inscription:
“3.11.39. Rast zwischen Tübingen u. Villingen.”
Translation: “3 November 1939. Rest stop between Tübingen and Villingen.”

This is a nice early-war image showing a sizable group of uniformed soldiers during a halt while traveling between Tübingen and Villingen in Germany.

The second photograph appears to be dated October 1940 and shows two uniformed German servicemen visiting a hospital or medical facility, accompanied by a man in white medical clothing.

The handwritten caption is somewhat difficult but appears to read approximately:

“Laz. Br…. Okt. 40. bei der Visite mit Stabsarzt Nell u. Unterarzt Rehm.”

Approximate translation:

“Military hospital … October 1940. During the medical rounds with Staff Doctor Nell and Assistant Doctor Rehm.”

“Laz.” is an abbreviation for Lazarett, meaning military hospital. Stabsarzt was a German military medical officer rank. The photograph therefore appears to document actual hospital rounds/inspection involving military medical personnel.

Both backs also retain Gevaert RIDAX photographic-paper markings.

A particularly interesting matched pair documenting two very different aspects of everyday Wehrmacht service—troops traveling in November 1939 and military medical/hospital activity in 1940.
