German 1911 Prince Regent Luitpold Bavaria 90th Birthday Munich School Postcard

Original 1911 Bavarian commemorative postcard featuring a striking color portrait of Prince Regent Luitpold of Bavaria in military dress, wearing an impressive array of orders, decorations and medals.

This card was specially issued for Luitpold’s 90th birthday on March 12, 1911, and was intended as a commemorative gift for Munich schoolchildren. Period museum records confirm that commemorative postcards were produced for his 90th birthday on this date.

The reverse is headed:

“In Treue fest!”

followed by:

“Erinnerungsgabe für die Münchner Schuljugend zum 90ten Geburtsfeste Sr. Kgl. Hoh. d. Prinzregenten Luitpold von Bayern. 12. März, 1911.”

Translation:

“Steadfast in Loyalty! Commemorative gift for the Munich schoolchildren on the 90th birthday of His Royal Highness Prince Regent Luitpold of Bavaria. March 12, 1911.”

The reverse also features a facsimile-style signature of Luitpold, Prince Regent of the Kingdom of Bavaria, together with a patriotic period verse by M. Greif.

The bottom identifies the issuer:

“Gewidmet von Ottmar Zieher’s Kunstanstalt, München.”

An attractive and very displayable piece of Imperial German and Royal Bavarian history, combining a beautiful color military portrait with a precisely dated 1911 commemorative issue.

The card is unused and shows normal age-related edge/corner wear and light surface wear. Please examine the photographs carefully for exact condition. Item shown is the exact item you will receive.
