German Federal Republic Merit Cross w/ 50 Years Clasp Medal Ribbon Bar

Very attractive German Federal Republic 50-Year Faithful Service decoration, featuring a large red enameled cross suspended from its original ribbon and complete with the impressive “50” long-service clasp.

The decoration features four broad arms finished in deep red enamel, bordered in silver-colored metal. The center medallion displays the German Federal Eagle (Bundesadler) in black against a silver-colored background.

The medal is suspended from a handsome red moiré-style ribbon with narrow black and gold/yellow edge stripes, representing the national colors of Germany. Mounted across the ribbon is a substantial silver-colored clasp prominently marked:

“50”

indicating 50 years of service.

The reverse of the cross is plain with a textured silver-colored finish. The ribbon retains its horizontal pin attachment on the reverse for wear.

An impressive postwar German long-service award with excellent visual appeal. The combination of the red enamel cross, Federal Eagle and large 50-year clasp makes this an interesting addition to a collection of German medals, civil decorations, long-service awards or Federal Republic memorabilia.

Condition:

Very nice overall condition. The red enamel remains bright with only minor age-related marks visible. The central Federal Eagle retains strong detail. Ribbon shows some age and handling with minor edge wear/fraying, particularly along the gold-colored borders. The 50-year clasp and rear pin attachment are present.
