Original 1935 Third Reich Nazi German Quittungskarte Insurance Card – 296th Police Precinct Berlin

Offered here is an original 1935 German Quittungskarte Nr. 1, an interesting early Third Reich social-insurance document issued through a Berlin police precinct.

The document is headed:

“Quittungskarte A. – Für Pflichtversicherung und Weiterversicherung”

Translation: “Receipt Card A – For Compulsory Insurance and Continued Insurance.”

These cards formed part of Germany’s worker insurance system. Insurance contributions were recorded through contribution stamps affixed to the card; period regulations specifically required contributions to be documented by placing and cancelling the appropriate stamps on the insured person’s Quittungskarte.

This example is Quittungskarte Nr. 1 and was issued on 27 March 1935. It contains the handwritten personal information of its original owner, including a 1915 birth year and Berlin residence.

A particularly attractive feature is the large purple official issuing seal at the upper right. It reads in part:

“Polizeipräsident in Berlin”
“Dienstsiegel der Ausgabestelle”
“296. Polizeirevier”

The center of the official seal displays the German national eagle and swastika, making this a very recognizable Third Reich-era Berlin administrative document. The handwritten issuing information also references the 296th Police Precinct.

The card unfolds to reveal the original grid intended for weekly insurance contribution stamps. Unlike the previous insurance card, this example appears unused internally, with none of the contribution-stamp spaces filled, which makes the large 1935 police issuing seal the principal feature.

The reverse contains extensive printed regulations from the Reichsversicherungsordnung, including regulations governing use, retention and alteration of the card.

Condition: Good original condition with noticeable period age toning, fold wear, edge/corner wear and handling consistent with an approximately 90-year-old working document. The official purple police seal remains strong and clearly visible. Please see all photographs for exact condition.
