Original 1940 WWII Nazi German Luftwaffe Aircraft Combat Art RAF Bomber Third Reich Art Print

Offered here is an original WWII-era German aviation art print dated September 1940, depicting a dramatic aerial combat scene between a German Luftwaffe aircraft and a British RAF bomber.

The artwork shows the German aircraft attacking from above while the British twin-engine bomber below is shown under fire, with visible RAF roundels. The German aircraft carries prominent Balkenkreuz markings on its wings and fuselage.

The lower-left corner bears what appears to be an artist’s signature/initials together with “Sept. 40,” dating the artwork to September 1940 — during the Battle of Britain period.

German aviation artwork and illustrated postcards were widely produced during WWII to portray Luftwaffe aircraft and aerial combat; surviving 1940 examples are collected today as both aviation and wartime ephemera. The Smithsonian, for example, catalogs original German Luftwaffe illustrated aviation postcards from 1940.

This example is considerably larger and heavier in appearance than a standard postcard. Based on the ruler photograph, it measures approximately 5 1/2″ x 6 1/2″. The reverse is completely blank.

Condition

Original vintage condition with age toning, surface wear, small marks and edge/corner wear. There are three small holes near the upper edge, likely from previous mounting or display. Some minor creasing and surface discoloration are also present.

The artwork itself remains attractive with strong color and an excellent dramatic aviation composition.
