Original WW2 Nazi German 1938/39 WHW Winter Help Set of 6 Propaganda Postcards

Original 1938/39 Third Reich Winterhilfswerk des Deutschen Volkes (WHW) group of six illustrated postal stationery postcards, all preserved unused with clean, unwritten backs.

Each card is marked:

“Winterhilfswerk des Deutschen Volkes 1938/39”
Translation: “Winter Relief Work of the German People 1938/39.”

This attractive series depicts ordinary German workers and rural life through detailed period illustrations. Included are cards for:

• Januar – January: Woman carrying a large bundle
• Februar – February: Male worker in heavy work clothing
• März – March: Older rural/fisherman-type worker
• Oktober – October: Female agricultural worker carrying harvested grain
• November – November: Woman serving food from a large pot
• Dezember – December: Woman engaged in detailed handwork/assembly

Each postcard has an imprinted 6+4 Pfennig “Winterhilfswerk” Deutsches Reich postal indicium, decorated with edelweiss flowers. The cards also prominently display the German national eagle and swastika emblem alongside the WHW inscription.

The +4 Pfennig surcharge represented the charitable contribution associated with the Winterhilfswerk campaign, while the postal stationery format allowed the cards to be mailed without adding a separate basic-rate stamp when valid.

All six examples are unused — no handwriting, addresses, postal cancellations or added stamps — making this an especially attractive matching group for display.

The Winterhilfswerk (WHW) was the large annual winter-relief fundraising program operated in Nazi Germany. Its extensive range of stamps, postcards, badges, donation pieces and other ephemera has become a distinct field of Third Reich collecting.
