Original WW2 Nazi German 1938 Quedlinburg King Heinrich I Tomb Propaganda Postcard

Original 1938 Third Reich German propaganda and postal-history postcard featuring the tomb of King Heinrich I (Henry the Fowler) inside the historic Quedlinburg collegiate church, which the Third Reich promoted as the “König-Heinrich-Dom.”

The printed photograph is captioned:

“Grabstätte König Heinrich I., des Begründers des Deutschen Reiches, im König-Heinrich-Dom in Quedlinburg”

Translation:
“Burial place of King Heinrich I, founder of the German Reich, in the King Heinrich Cathedral in Quedlinburg.”

Across the top is the propaganda slogan:

“Lernt Deutschland kennen!”
Translation: “Get to know Germany!”

Heinrich I (Henry the Fowler, c. 876–936) was a medieval German king whose historical image was heavily appropriated and promoted by the Nazi regime. Quedlinburg and Heinrich’s tomb became particularly important ceremonial and propaganda sites during the Third Reich, making this much more historically interesting than an ordinary architectural postcard.

The card is genuinely postally used and bears an attached 6 Pfennig Hindenburg Deutsches Reich stamp with period cancellation. It was addressed to a family in Dornbach, Oldenburg Land, and retains both its original correspondence and sender information.

An additional handwritten message fills the opposite side of the card, dated Düsseldorf, 25.11.38. The writer explains that they are contacting the recipients on behalf of their daughter and mentions that she underwent a successful operation on Thursday. She was still suffering the usual pain but hoped to be able to write personally soon. The writer states that she would probably have to remain lying flat for 14 days to promote healing and asks the family not to worry and to write to her as soon as possible. This personal correspondence adds another layer of genuine period history to the piece.
