Offered here is an original WWII-era German police registration / deregistration document (Abmeldung bei der polizeilichen Meldebehörde), completed and officially stamped in June 1945, immediately following the end of the war in Europe.

This is a particularly interesting piece of German civilian administrative and occupation-period history, as the printed form itself dates from the Third Reich period and contains an extract from the Reichsmeldeordnung vom 6. Januar 1938 (Reich Registration Regulations of January 6, 1938) on the reverse, while the document was actually being used during the chaotic first weeks after Germany’s surrender.

The document records the movement of a family household. The principal individual appears to be Katharina Wellerwind, née Becker, together with Günter and Gisela Wellerwind. The entries give dates of birth and other information including place of birth, citizenship and religious affiliation. The form indicates a move/deregistration dated in July 1945, with the official processing/stamping occurring on June 30, 1945.

Of particular interest are the prominent purple/blue municipal and official stamps in the upper-right corner, including a circular Gemeinde municipal stamp bearing the Bavarian lozenge coat of arms and an additional rectangular administrative stamp clearly dated:

30. Juni 1945

The document is headed:

“Abmeldung bei der polizeilichen Meldebehörde”

which translates approximately as:

“Deregistration with the Police Registration Authority.”

The reverse is almost completely covered with the printed “Auszug aus der Reichsmeldeordnung vom 6. Januar 1938”, or:

“Extract from the Reich Registration Regulations of January 6, 1938.”

These regulations explain the legal requirements governing registration and deregistration when changing residences, household members, landlords and tenants. Particularly interesting from a historical standpoint, the printed regulations also contain references to the Wehrmacht, SS-Verfügungstruppe and Reichsarbeitsdienst, illustrating that this was a form originally produced under the wartime German administrative system but still being used after the collapse of the Third Reich.

The document is dated and signed at the lower right and retains its original handwritten family information throughout.

Historical Interest

This is a fascinating transitional May–July 1945 document. Germany had surrendered only weeks before the official June 30 stamp was applied, yet local authorities still had to maintain everyday records of residents and population movements. Existing forms and administrative paperwork therefore continued to be used during the immediate postwar period.

The juxtaposition of the 1938 Reich registration regulations and wartime terminology with a June 1945 municipal processing stamp makes this considerably more interesting than an ordinary prewar registration form.

Condition shows genuine period use, including multiple original folds, edge wear, small tears, age toning, staining and handling wear. The document nevertheless remains substantially complete and displays extremely well. Please examine all photographs carefully for exact condition and handwritten details.

An excellent original document for a collection focused on WWII German paperwork, civilian life, police administration, Bavaria, the collapse of the Third Reich, or the immediate Allied occupation period.
